Definition:

A pathological or traumatic discontinuity of tissue or loss of function of a part.  A change from normal structure. 

This term is overused and it is non-specific.  It is much more precise to describe a lesion as a macule, papule, nodule, mass, or other more specific term.

Derivation:

Latin: laesio; laedere to hurt
